Correlation between diabetes knowledge (measured using the General Diabetes Knowledge Test (GDKT), score range 0-100) and HRQoL (measured using the Audit of Diabetes-dependent Quality of life (ADDQoL), score range 0~100;EQ-5D, score range-0.594 to 1) were studied using Pearson correlation coefficients. The relationship between diabetes knowledge and HRQoL was studied using 3 separate multiple linear regression (MLR) models with HRQoL scores as dependent variable and GDKT score as independent variable. No adjustment was made in the first MLR model, while socioeconomic variable(s) and socioeconomic and medical status variables were adjusted respectively in the other 2 models. Results: Data from 42 subjects with complete responses were analyzed (mean (SD) age:53.0(9.61) years, 45% female, 90% with >6 years of education, 64.3% with other chronic medical conditions, 40.5% with diabetes complications). Mean (SD) GDKT, ADDQoL and EQ-5D scores were 33.1(3.53), 46.9(18.56) and 0.9(0.15) respectively. Correlations between diabetes knowledge and ADDQoL and EQ-5D scores were 0.26 and 0.30 respectively. A comparatively modest predictive power of diabetes knowledge was found to explain the variances in ADDQoL and EQ-5D of around 12% (Model II). Conclusion: Our results showed diabetes knowledge to be modestly correlated with both diabetes-specific and generic HRQoL, indicating that diabetes knowledge may be useful as a predictor of HRQoL when modeled properly. Methods: Based on Vallerand's methodology, a preliminary version of the "Patient-completed Asthma Knowledge Questionnaire" (PAKQ) was back-translated and evaluated by an expert committee. A sample of 20 individuals with asthma pretested the questionnaire, after which 62 adults were recruited. Sociodemographic data were collected and the PAKQ together with a comparator questionnaire (Consumer Questionnaire (CQ)) were completed. Fourteen days after the first visit, participants returned to recomplete both questionnaires; half were randomly selected to receive a one-on-one asthma education session and again completed both questionnaires immediately after education, and at 10 days follow-up. Results: The PAKQ showed good internal consistency (KR-20 = 0.77). Moderate correlation with CQ (r = 0.596, p = 0.01) attested to its concurrent validity. Confirmatory factor analyses confirmed a single factor structure. A repeated measures ANOVA showed its reproducibility (n = 21:F(1) = 3.578, p = 0.07, ηp2 = 0.152) and responsiveness (n = 21:F(1) = 26.041, P < 0.05, ηp2 = 0.566). Methods: The LiveRLife campaign involved three phases: (1) campaign resource development; (2) campaign resource testing; and (3) campaign implementation. Participants were enrolled in an observational cohort study with recruitment at four clinics - one primary health care facility, two OST clinics, and one medically supervised injecting centre - in Australia between May and October 2014. Participants received educational material, nurse clinical assessment, TE assessment, dried blood spot testing, and completed a knowledge survey. Results: Of 253 participants (mean age 43 years), 68% were male, 71% had injected in the past month, and 75% self-reported as HCV positive. Median knowledge score was 16/23. In adjusted analysis, less than daily injection (AOR 5.01; 95% CI, 2.64-9.51) and no daily injection in the past month (AOR 3.54; 95% CI, 1.80-6.94) were associated with high knowledge (≥16). TE was the most preferred method both pre- (66%) and post-TE (89%) compared to liver biopsy and blood sample. Eighty-eight percent were 'definitely willing' or 'somewhat willing' to receive HCV treatment, and 56% intended to start treatment in the next 12 months. Approximately 68% had no/mild fibrosis (F0/F1, ≥2.5 to ≤7.4. kPa), 13% moderate fibrosis (F2, ≥7.5 to ≤9.4. kPa), 10% severe fibrosis (F3, ≥9.5 to ≤12.4. kPa), and 9% had cirrhosis (F4, ≥12.5. kPa). Conclusion: Liver disease and HCV knowledge was moderate. Medication use, adherence, knowledge, and inhaler technique were compared between cohorts. Changes in self-management knowledge/skills and women's perception of medication risk to the fetus were assessed in 685 women with 5 assessments during pregnancy, and 95 women who had a postpartum assessment. RESULTS:At study entry, 41%, 29%, and 38% of participants used ICS in the 2004, 2007, and 2013 cohorts, respectively (p = 0.017), with 40% non-adherence in each cohort. Self-management skills of pregnant women with asthma did not improve between 2004 and 2017 and possession of a written action plan remained low. Maximum improvements were reached by 3 sessions for medications knowledge and one session for inhaler technique, and were maintained postpartum. ICS adherence was maximally improved after one session, but not maintained postpartum. Perceived risk of asthma medications on the fetus was highest for corticosteroid-containing medication; and was significantly reduced following education. Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of non-adherence and poor self-management skills in all cohorts. More awareness of the importance of optimal asthma management during pregnancy is warranted, since no improvements were observed over the past decade.]]> Mon 22 Aug 2022 10:25:31 AEST ]]> Australian long-term care personnel's knowledge and attitudes regarding palliative care for people with advanced dementia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46409 Mon 21 Nov 2022 11:52:39 AEDT ]]> Critical care nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward pressure injury prevention: A pre and post intervention study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52533 Mon 16 Oct 2023 14:50:19 AEDT ]]> Junior Doctor Evaluation of Radiation Oncology Education and Training in Medical Schools and Prevocational Training in Australia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44209 Mon 10 Oct 2022 15:49:45 AEDT ]]> Perceptions of community members in Australia about the risk factors, symptoms and impacts of dementia: A cross-sectional questionnaire study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43626 Mon 10 Jul 2023 13:54:37 AEST ]]> Mental Fatigue and Soccer: Current Knowledge and Future Directions https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48831 Mon 10 Apr 2023 10:42:53 AEST ]]> Six troubling things: cultivating ethical know-how through creative practice research https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41542 Mon 08 Aug 2022 08:44:17 AEST ]]> Vietnamese primary english teachers' knowledge, perceptions and practices https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36400 Mon 04 May 2020 13:49:59 AEST ]]> Parental perceptions of stuttering in children: a systematic review of the literature https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50068 Fri 30 Jun 2023 11:13:27 AEST ]]> Determinants of the knowledge of and attitude towards tuberculosis in Nigeria https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20291 Fri 28 Aug 2015 09:47:23 AEST ]]> Shifts in the treatment of knowledge in academic reading and writing: adding complexity to students' transitions between A-levels and university in the UK https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33972 Fri 25 Jan 2019 14:42:10 AEDT ]]> Diet during pregnancy: Women's knowledge of and adherence to food safety guidelines https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:31413 Fri 10 Mar 2023 17:57:35 AEDT ]]> Classifying knowledge used in complementary medicine consultations: a qualitative systematic review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51556 Fri 08 Sep 2023 15:06:39 AEST ]]> Paediatric pain management: knowledge, attitudes, barriers and facilitators among nurses - integrative review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36430 Fri 01 May 2020 10:04:03 AEST ]]>
